51 years ago, people from around the world decided to put this tenet into practice. In order to engage in politics and agriculture, they managed to buy an abandoned plot of land in the rural area of the Limans commune in France. Thus was the first ‘Longo Maï’ co-operative established.

Thereafter eleven more co-operatives emerged, including one in Ukraine.

‘Longo Maï’ community from Nyzhne Selysche in Transcarpathia specializes in sheep and pig breeding as well as in not-from-concentrate juice production from apples picked in the gardens of the village and district dwellers. There is a guesthouse for everyone wishing to taste an alternative lifestyle and assist in the co-operative functioning too.

All the revenue of Ukraine’s ‘Longo Maï’ is directed to the sociocultural projects e.g. fests, lectures, workshops for the vulnerable groups, as well as to the shelter and aid for the internally displaced people.

Recently, the team of our ‘Look at this!’ project has gotten to Transcarpathia for the purpose of telling you more about the kind of life in the ‘Longo Maï’ and introducing its members.
