Historian and Slavicist specializing in the history of Central and Eastern Europe, particularly Poland, Ukraine, and the Habsburg Empire. He is based at the Department of East European History at the University of Vienna. His research focuses on nationalism, borders, languages, and minority history. From 2018 to 2023, he was the principal investigator of the ERC-funded project “Non-Territorial Autonomy as Minority Protection in Europe.” He currently leads the Polish-Austrian research project “Non-Ukrainians in Revolutionary Ukraine.”
