Dear readers of “Commons”,
We would like to remind you that the next, eleventh issue of our journal (fall 2017) will be dedicated to reflections on theory, history and strategy of leftist movement, as 2017 marks 100 years since October Revolution and 150 years since first edition of Marx’s Capital. In particular, the issue will cover such topics as:
-
Marxism as a theory of social liberation (what can Marxism say on the topic of social liberation; is orthodox Marxism possible today; how Marxism responded to capitalist transformations; are there any blind spots in Marxism; is the opposition between Marxism and anarchism still relevant; is Leninism possible today);
-
History of revolutionary movement (current evaluation of XX century revolutions, the nature of ‘real socialist’ societies; decommunization: a chance for the left or a win for the right; rise and fall of the welfare state — reasons of triumph and fiasco of social democracy; labor movement – revolutionary agent or factor of ‘improvement’ of capitalism; national liberation movement and socialism: allies or foes; legacy of the XX century ‘new left’; revolutionary process of post-USSR era — Latin America, Nepal);
-
Left movement strategy (organizational forms — parties, movements, syndicates or networks; center or periphery – where the weak link would break; what social groups are the subjects of revolution — working class or minorities; ecological revolution or death of humanity; state and revolution — destruction or applying; reform and revolution — opposites or stages of the same process);
-
What is socialism of the future? (what socialism is and is not; tasks of the transformational period; how not to allow restoration of capitalism).
